  6. With the mires centered and in focus, 
  7. one is ready to make the measurement.  
  8. Rotate the drum on the left (horizontal) 
  9. until the horizontal plus signs are just 
  10. separated.  The horizontal lines of the 
  11. plus should be aligned-make a straight 
  12. line (on axis).  If they are not this 
  13. indicates there is corneal toricity at 
  14. some axis other than 180 or 90 degrees 
  15. (off axis).
